At Giant Kendal we love bikes and anything to do with bikes. We like talking about bikes, we like riding bikes, we like looking at new bikes, we like fixing bikes………. and we have all been riding bikes for longer than we can remember so you would think we know a thing or two about the world of biking??

Here’s a few words of wisdom from the Giant Kendal Team……….

TRAIN FOR AN EVENT, OR BLAG IT?

Chris Dixon – Just do it!

Chris Stirling - Train, 100% :)

Chris Waters - Just enjoy the ride

Rich Bickley – Bit of both

TOP TIP TO GET FASTER ON A BIKE

Chris DPush down on the pedals harder

Chris S - Nice and simple - keep on peddling and don’t just coast, soft pedal down all the hills

Chris W - Wait for a tail wind

Rich B - Ride as much as possible

TOP TRAINING ADVICE

Chris DRide more

Chris S - No secrets or shortcuts, keep it simple and consistent

Chris W – Variety

Rich B - Ride slower. Slow is the new fast

TOP TIP FOR GETTING TO TOP OF THE HILLS FIRST

Chris D - Take it steady at the bottom

Chris S - Pacing and a little bit of patience, or the other method is just go as hard as you can from the gun, grit your teeth and hopefully scare off the opposition!

Chris W - Get up early

Rich B - High gear hill reps

TOP EMERGENCY BIKE FIX

Chris DTake a mobile phone and £10 for hot choc and cake while you wait

Chris S - Gel wrappers make great fixes for tyre sidewalls if they get sliced but you can use almost anything (a few layers of newspaper got me round a MTB Triathlon race in Malta)

Chris W - I once bent my forks so badly riding in the Howgills I had to remove the cantilever brake and run them backwards so the wheel wouldn’t hit the frame. Got me back home but not in a very straight line!

Rich B - Use a £5 note to fix a split tyre

ANY IMPRESSIVE CYCLING SKILLS?

Chris D – I can balance on one wheel

Chris S - Nothing particularly impressive

Chris W - My mum can ride a bike back to front

Rich B - Highest cadence reached was 225rpm

Chris B               Rich

WHAT BIKE KIT COULD YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT?

Chris DGillet, arm warmers and knee warmers

Chris S - Love windproof gillets, always useful. Luxury item would be Di2 on my Trinity TT bike

Chris W - I’m a survivor. Just air, water, food and shelter

Rich B – Mudguards

BEST BIKE FOOD

Chris DHot choc and cake

Chris S - Peanut butter and Jam sandwiches

Chris W - When I was riding round the North Sea I ate 50cm long Swiss Rolls on the go. Now I’m vegan I have to settle with dates instead

Rich B - A mouthful of air every second
