Where to Ride - Bike Ride from Kendal

Where to ride?  35mile Bike Ride from Kendal

Looking for a new bike ride from Kendal then this is a great route if you’ve not got long but want a couple of hills and to explore somewhere a bit different.  Check out the full detailed route here on Strava.

From Kendal ride out towards Natland through to Sedgwick then on the back lanes in the direction of Sizergh Castle and the Strickland Arms pub.  Too early for a pub lunch so it’s up the first hill of the day. Bit of a cheeky one especially after you turn right at the junction and it goes up again but there is a really good downhill on the other side all the way through Levens before a sharp right turn opposite the Hare & Hounds.

Ride along the flats, right turn at the end and past another pub, Gilpin Bridge Inn, then right again onto a short cycle path (riding long enough to have earned a pint yet??).

Keep pedalling along the flat road with Whitbarrow Scar to your right until you come to yet another pub, Derby Arms, in front of you at the junction where you will turn right. Push on past the pub (although those chips smell good!) through Witherslack winding your way through the tree covered lanes and woods with a few lumpy ups and downs along the way. This is probably one of the nicest sections on the route.

You eventually arrive at Bowland Bridge, turn right at this junction and surprisingly pass a pub, another Hare & Hounds!  Shortly after this you take a left in the direction of Winster and again ride along some lovely, quiet wooded lanes before arriving at a junction, turn left here, opposite the junction you will see………another pub! If you can drag yourself past the Brown Horse at Winster there are a few little lumps to ride over then it’s a nice downhill into Bowness dodging the tourists.  Not far off the café stop at Wilfs now.

Head along Rayrigg Road out of Bowness and up a sneaky little hill that eventually levels out and leads to Cooks House Corner roundabout, there’s a cracking view at the top and often an ice cream van.  Head towards Troutbeck straight over Cooks House roundabout then take a right up the steep Fusethwaite Lane. It levels out briefly then kicks again but after a bit more up and down it’s all downhill to Ings and the cycle path back to Stavely and a brew stop at Wilfs.

Only about 6 miles back to Kendal from Stavely and a couple of short hills so fill up on hot chocolate, veggie chilli and cake it’s an easy ride from here.
